Thousand Years of Love – 천년지애

2008 June 6

Doesn’t this looks like an interesting show? Any series that plays with the theme of time/space transportation always manage to capture my attention. And coupled with the fact that it is a korean drama (my fav!) this is a must watch for me. (: Finished the first episode and i must admit that this really have potential to be a good drama, but so far the reviews that I have read isnt too optimistic. Some say its draggy in the middle, yet some think it’s a good series. The best way to find out is to finish the series, isnt it? :D
Sypnosis:

More than a thousand years ago from the present time, Sung Yu Ri is the Baek Jae Empire’s princess Puyeoju. Unlike other princesses, she is active and skilled in the arts and in sports. When the Baek Jae Empire crumbles due to a spy (Kim Sa Rang), she runs away with her bodyguard General Guishil Ari (So Ji Sup), and falls in love with him in the meanwhile. The new conquerer Kim Yu-suk (Kim Nam Jin) is also in love with the princess, but only receives hate in return. In a desperate attempt to win her, he kills Ari, but the princess runs away and jumps off a cliff to kill herself. While falling, she travels more than one thousand years into the future, which is our present time of 2003. Only she remains to be who she was, and she encounters Ari to be an aimless fashion designer Kang In-chul with a warm heart and bad temper. Although he is annoyed at her ignorance of the present world, he comes to fall in love with the princess again. Fujiwara Tatsuji (Kim Nam Jin) is the son of the Fujiwara dynasty, and once again is mysteriously attracted to the princess. Only she knows the past that holds all three of them together, but will things become an exact replica of the situation back then?

However, I have too many shows at hand to finish watching, so perhaps this has to wait a few more months. Let me see, what do I have on hand?

1. The Devil

2. Flowers for my Life

3. Pure 19

4. Green Rose

5. Hello Miss (I actually watched it halfway, but due to long term neglect I guess I have to rewatch it.

6. Vineyard Man (not much interest in this, but my mum happens to love it :/ )

7. Snow White (looks really dumb, I dunno why I bought this)

8. Resurrection!! (Uhm Tae Woong (: )

9. 1% of something (okay i dunno why i bought this too :X )

10. Over the rainbow

11. King and the Clown (I bought this a few months ago and havent watched it yet)

12. My Sassy Girl (I know I am lousy, that was how long ago a movie!)

13. a few other korean movies (cant remember the titles)

I have a nagging feeling that I still got a few more titles which I totally forgot. OHYES.

14. Time between Dog and Wolf (How could I forget this! Lee JunKi :D )

I decide not to test my memory anymore. So you see, how can I have time to watch Thousand Years of Love??

After I’ve finished watching THOUSAND YEARS OF LOVE, I have many doubtful things that I think that the drama did not tell answers. It let us to think that
    - Why did the princess can know her own diary which has not been written yet?
    - Even though the princess can go back to her past with out using the necklace, why did Tatsuji’s mother much want to posses princess’s necklace?
    - Why did Tatsuji’s mother much try to stop the princess not to go back to her past?
    - Why did Kang-In-Chul act like he will jump with the princess down from the cliff but finally did not jump and leave the princess jump down lonely to her past?
    - And in the last part of this drama, why did Kang-In-Chul seem confidently can go to meet the princess at Nam Buyeo?
    - And finally, will Kang-In-Chul meet his beloved princess?

So I try to think for answers of these question. And I want to share them with other people.
And I want to know opinions of other people too.
    For my answers :
    1. Because the princess can know her own diary which has not been written, so that there must be more than two princess of Puyeoju live in the same earth but in different time lines.
    2. Because many events and persons which have been written in the 1,400 years old diary are as same as events and persons in the present, so that events in different time lines happen in same pattern repeatly.
    3. Because despite the princess travel across time to the future and then go back to her past , but the princess has never meet the princess from other time lines, so that although the princess travel to the future or go back to her past but she is still in her same time line only.
    4. Because princess’s necklace is a thing written in the diary and also in the portrait picture of a woman who was a lover of an ancestor of Fujiwara’s clan, but the necklace was dissapeared, so that Tatsuji’s mother want to posses it, and I think that she knows from the diary that the dissapearance of the necklace relate to travelling back to the past.
    5. About that Tatsuli’s mother do not want the princess go back to her past , I think Tatsuji’s mother is a type of Japanese nationalism who don’t want to see Korean’s blood contaminate in Fujiwara’s clan. And because her husband (Tatsuji’ father) has another Korean wife(Tatsuji’s biological mother), it makes her much more hates Korean’s woman.
    6. About that Kang-In-Chul didn’t jump down the cliff with the princess, it because he normally feared falling from height as an normal human , and he has never jumped across the time like the princess has. And this thing is his luck, because if he go back to the past simultaneously with the princess, he will surely be killed by prince Kim-Yoo-Suk.
    7. And from all above reason, in the last part of this drama, Kang-In-Chul looked at the necklace and find out that he can go to meet his beloved princess by wearing the necklace and jumping down from the cliff to the past that his beloved princess lives, bacause ther will be another princess in different time line (but in the same earth) travel back to her past every day but wearing the necklace come from the same timeline of his beloved princess will lead him to the time and time line that his beloved princess lives. And then he will go to the land of Wa to meet his beloved princess.
Hope that ones who like this drama will share opinions with me. From pwpmd@hotmail.com

I’ve just finished the series yesterday. I thought the reason that Kang-In-Chul didn’t go back to the past is when the sky become dark and there was white flash to push him back when the princess jumped. That what I think because I like him so much I don’t want to think he would leave the princess went by herself like that.
At the end, when the princess finished her diary, she said that she will see him again after 1400 years. Therefore, I think she will come to life again to marry him in this life.
I love seeing movies that have happy ending like We are dating now when So Ji Sup and Chae Rim dating again. For this drama, I’m a bit disappointed and hope they can go a bit further when Kang-In -Chul goes to Nam Buyeo, there’s a scene that they meet each other again.
That’s my thought anyway. Hope someone can have a better expaination about this end.
