Meteor Rain – Yet another version of Hana Yori Dango

2009 February 6

How many versions of a manga re-make do we actually need?

2001: Taiwan came out with the 1st version ‘Meteor Garden’ which propelled F4 into super-stardom in Asia

2002: Eager to continue it’s success, Meteor Garden II was filmed. However it garnered  much less support from its fans

2005: Finally, Japan came out with it’s own re-make, named after the original Manga (Hana Yori Dango)

2007: After 2 years, season 2 was released.

2009: Korea finally caught on the wave, with Boys Before Flowers 꽃보다 남자 premiering from 5 Jan.

Feb 2009: China announced the 4th re-made of Hana Yori Dango in Asia – Meteor Rain

Everyone’s jumping on the bandwagon. ><

Meteor Rain is slated to have 35 episodes, with filming currently starting and lasting for 3 months. Out of the 4, the guys playing Ji Hoo and Woo Bin are experienced actors while the rest are newbies. As usual, they are all over 180cm – it seems to be a MUST have for anyone who wants to be F4.

The storyline seems to be a little different from the China version. In order to differentiate itself, the produces plan to turn the original romantic story into an urm.. inspirational story.

“Romantic drama becomes inspirational drama”‘Meteor Garden’ is a classic romantic idol drama but the China version has decided to make changes to the plot: After going through many twists and turns, Chu Yu Qian and F4 grow and mature during their school years and learn to self-rely to achieve their dreams. This has become the focus of netizen’s talks, they commented that the scriptwriter is very tough: “Turning a romantic drama into an inspirational drama.”

Anyway I came upon this news through Naver while browsing through the entertainment news.  :D

There’s probably a very high chance that China’s new F4 will shoot to super-stardom like their previous 3 batches of  predecessors. However, isn’t it too early for a FOURTH version when we are still currently digesting the Korean drama?

haha seems like the response isn’t very positive. :D i’m more concerned about how they are delivering the story.
Inspirational drama just sounds .. weird.

    they’re not hot enough.
plus, this story was intended to be very romantic, not “inspirational”!

woah~ they don’t look handsome at all! and what are they thinking of 35 eps, way too long! the 4 dun fit the cast AT ALL! ji hoo’s suppose to look innocent and quiet.. not (im sorry) ugly! and for the rest… they jus dun look like F4

    Hi ilovejihoo:

hahaha yeah they totally didnt fit my image of F4, I had trouble identifying who’s who without reading the article! I sure didn’t have such problems with the taiwan/jap/korean cast. ><

omg! I don’t think I’ll watch this though, the cast isn’t as pleasing as the tw/jap/kor versions. And China’s idol dramas aren’t really that good compared to tw/jap/kor.

haha yeah me too. I have problems identifying who’s who :/ and that’s really bad, giving that each member of F4 is supposed to be distinctive

actually i think they’re really hot….the more you look at them the hotter they get…just look at this whole forum

O.O the girl is definently i think the prettiest out of ALL of the versions, all of the girl actresses at least. and this is isn’t a remake of HYD/BOF the person who wrote the script took 2 years and barely even watched the previous drama’s or the manga. Everyone is just labeling this as F4 because it has the name of Meteor Shower….seriously that’s a pretty generic name to name a drama… if you notice none of the names of the characters are the same either…from what i heard…all of F4 falls in love with the girl o.O that’ll be interesting… the school is called “a li si ten/aliceton” and it’s about four rich guy who are forced to go to college, they want to get kicked out of college so they bring trouble upon the students, the lead girl wants to go to that college and get’s help from her uncle…through all of that she becomes their main target and yea……

omg. you’re right. they seem to be hotter after I looked at the pics on AF. shame there are a lot of bad pics and not enough good pics =[ I still think that wei chen’s the cutest though coz I’m not familiar with the other three XD the girl’s pretty. and the uni she goes to is like famous for famous people. lol.

I personally think that ji hoo aka kim hyun joong is very cute/hot. I bet alot of people think so too. The Kor cast is the best yet, even the side characters looks good, like yi jung’s brother.

China’s version character’s name kinda sounds like HYD’s. And the person acting as ‘dao ming si’ looks very old! I think i saw him on some shows before. o.O!

Maybe if its not like HYD maybe people think that its some rip-off.

BUT i have to agree that the girl acting as ‘makino’ looks pretty.

haha I love hyun joong too! At the start, I think his acting skills were really weak but now he’s improving alot. Now I even wish that Jandi will be with him! (:

W0nder Chink: wow I didn’t know that all the 4 guys will like the main lead! hmmm an interesting twist to the story. I wouldn’t mind so much if the entire story is new and refreshing, but I just hope that they won’t try to turn a love story into an ‘inspirational’ one. :D

actually they are HOT ! really in those pictures they seem ugly but when you look the other photos they are cute + as i heard the name is meteor shower not rain !

but the “inspirational” thing is not cool AT ALL .

if there is no love it’s not worthy of watching 35 episodes

and if all of the f4 gonna fall for her that would be wierd but interesting if this thing will happen i can deffinetly watch but there should be if not no meaning of watching it d be boring

as i watched the trailer from youtube with song or something like song – cuz i dont like the song that much BUT there will deffinetly gonna be some kind of love it’s not just “inspirational”

so i think now that i can watch it

and yes the name is meteor SHOWER

and those guys ARE hot realy go yuotube and watch that kind of trailer-song thing i really think it’s okay but it is a normal hyd ! not exactly a diffrent plot or something

I’m watching the series now. I must say, the yun-hai looks good in some shots…. Wei chen is cute most of the time….. as for Yu Hao Ming….. -__-.. I think he would look better as a model… not as that character…. it’s just wrong.. /(>.<)\

As for the the girl… she's cute… and she's not suppose to be pretty… coz the character is suppose to be an average girl with a big personality.
