Listening to the news broadcast is probably one of the hardest type of listening for most people as the language tends to be more formal and the speed of speaking a lot faster than dramas.
However it is good practice to listen to short news clips and SBS News offers video clips together with the entire transcript of the video.
Each video is about 1 min + or so and this is a great length for those who are just starting to listen to news broadcast.
In order to increase the effectiveness of learning, I would:
- listen to the broadcast without watching the video (a pure test of listening skills)
- watch the video and listen
- read the transcript
- watch the video again to make sure you can catch everything after reading the transcript
